Puppies are bred occasionally at Fairwyn with our goal being to produce new show prospects for our kennel. Each litter is carefully planned to improve the quality of the parents. Because we plan to keep at least one puppy from each litter as our own, we carefully consider all health and temperament issues as well as structure and breed type prior to each breeding. With that said, we also occasionally have puppies to place in companion or performance homes. Finding quality, life-long homes for these lovely puppies is given highest priority. We do take names on a waiting list, but select only qualified buyers that we feel offer the type home environment to fit the temperament of each individual puppy.
Puppies are evaluated from 8-12 weeks of age and show prospects are selected to keep. Then we offer "companion" puppies for select buyers. These pet puppies are equal in terms of health and temperament but just do not, in our opinion, compare as favorable to the breed standard as the puppies we keep for show. Show potential puppies with full registration are available only to people whom we have gotten to know very well. Pet puppies are sold with limited registration papers and a spay/neuter contract and health guarantee. They are to be house pets and family members, not kennel or yard dogs.
If an older dog seems better for your home, you might want to consider a retired champion or an older youngster kept for show but not meeting the expectations required for the ring. These dogs would already be housebroken, have house manners, be leash and crate trained and often make the better pet for someone wanting to "skip" all the puppy and adolescent behaviour of young dogs. They are often more affordably priced and occasionally available.
We work very hard to continue to communicate and have good interactions with our pet purchasers. We are always available to help answer questions.
